On one particularly cold Carolina morning, the mystical fragrance of Winter Daphne sparked an aura of hope within me as I meandered down the pathway to retrieve our Sunday paper.

Tucked quietly beneath towering camellias with their showy blossoms, I see the tiny flowers of this small evergreen shrub that have reliably bloomed each winter, from mid/late January to early March.

The Winter Daphne brings the hope for Spring wafting through the breeze with a huge presence of wild, sweet, woodsy notes akin to jasmine and gardenia.

Unlike naive optimism, this is the scent of hope that represents a confident expectation rooted in gratitude and the transcendent energy of nature. It reminds us that regardless of momentary circumstances, Spring eventually arrives on her own timeline.

This energy of hope can serve you in much the same way it does nature. Sometimes the circumstances of life can challenge you to question whether you’re on the right path. At such times, you can be plagued by the fears of not enough.

But when you’re on an inspired and aligned journey to bring your work into this world, hope will sustain you and build your resilience to the times of adversity.

This is not “the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense regardless…” –Vaclav Havel

Hope brings a deep knowing you’ll find plenty because it’s baked into your calling. When you’re on the path of meaning and purpose, you can always find plenty.

How has hope provided you with plenty as it guided you forward along your journey? How might gratitude help to bolster your sense of plenty? What is present in your life now that needs an infusion of transcendent hope?
